HeidelbergCement/Italcementi: Let's get concrete…* In a nutshell: Two global cement players merged and although their footprint in Europe is rather complementary, their activities overlapped to a great extent in Belgium in a number of markets. In order to remedy the serious doubts in first phase, the entire overlap caused by the merger in Belgium and its surrounding regions was divested. As the supply of limestone is essential for producing cement, the divestment was structured so as to ensure the long term viability of the business.
