The General Court dismisses appeal against the European Commission’s decision in a cartel case (Toshiba)

On 21 May 2014, the General Court (GC) dismissed an appeal lodged by Toshiba against the European Commission’s decision of 7 October 2009 in the power transformers cartel case. In its 2009 decision, the Commission imposed fines totalling € 67.6 million on a number of European and Japanese companies for having participated, during the period of 1999 to 2003, in a market-sharing cartel on the market for power transformers in breach of Article 101 TFEU (see VBB on Competition Law, Volume 2009, No. 10).
