The Czech Chamber of Deputies votes a bill on abuse of economic dependence (Bill on significant market power and the abuse thereof)

On 15 May 2009, the Czech Chamber of Deputies voted in favour of a bill “on significant market power and the abuse thereof”. According to the voted text, “where, due to the situation on the market, a supplier becomes dependent on the buyer with respect to the possibility to deliver its goods to consumers, to the point of the buyer being able to enforce unilaterally favourable commercial terms”, the latter is subjected to specific obligations and prohibitions. In case of abuse, defined as repeated breaches of said obligations and prohibitions aimed at or having for effect a substantial distortion of competition on the relevant market, fines amounting to up to 10% of the buyer's turnover may be imposed by the Office for the Protection of Competition, and the buyer shall be liable for any
