eBay Inc., technical host of the website ebay.fr, eBay International, which runs the services proposed on ebay.fr, eBay Europe, which is the co-contractor of sellers and buyers (located in the EU) on eBay, eBay France, which is the advertising agency and the contact of French internet users of eBay.fr (“eBay companies”), have been sued before the Civil Court (Tribunal de Grande Instance) of Paris by L'Oreal Company and various subsidiaries. L'Oreal claims that the eBay electronic platform has become one of the principal channels for resale of counterfeit items, such as perfumes and cosmetic products, and allows for authentic products to be resold in violation of official selective distribution networks.
