The UK Competition Commission clears a merger in the water supply sector and orders a price reduction following a referral by the Office of Fair Trading (Mid Kent Water / South East Water)

The operation Hastings Diversified Utilities Fund (HDF) and the Utilities Trust of Australia (UTA) jointly own Mid Kent Water Limited, which is a licensed supplier of drinking water to customers in the South East of England, in particular in Kent and parts of Sussex. HDF and UTA acquired 100% of the share capital of Macquarie Luxembourg Water Sarl (now Hastings Luxembourg Water Sarl), the holding company for South East Water Limited, a licensed supplier of drinking water to customers in the South East of England, in particular in parts of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. This case was the first reference made to the Competition Commission (CC) under the new water merger provisions of the Water Industry Act
