The Competition Commission of Pakistan clears a merger subject to remedies in the telecommunications market (Mobilink / Warid)

On 21 March 2016, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (Commission) approved the proposed merger of Mobilink, a subsidiary of VimpelCom, and Warid, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Group. The firms are the first and fifth largest mobile network operators in Pakistan, while VimpelCom is present in 14 markets worldwide. The approval is conditional on full compliance with commitments offered by notifying parties. Background This merger is the eighth to be carried into Phase II review by the Commission since the beginning of enforcement under the Competition Act 2010.
