The EU Commission imposes € 169 M on 14 international groups of freight forwarders for operating four price fixing cartels (Freight forwarders cartel)

On 28 March 2012, the European Commission announced that it had fined 14 international groups of companies a total of € 169 million for participating in four distinct cartels. According to the press release published by the Commission, the aim of the participants in the cartel was to fix prices and other trading conditions for international air freight forwarding services. The freight forwarders colluded on surcharges and charging mechanisms concerning important trade routes, in particular the Europe-USA and the China/Hong Kong-Europe routes.
