The EC adopts a new Block Exemption Regulation for the insurance sector

On 24 March 2010, the European Commission (Commission) adopted a new Block Exemption Regulation (new BER) for the insurance sector. This exempts certain agreements from the EU-wide ban on anticompetitive practices contained in Article 101 Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) (formerly Article 81 EC Treaty). The new BER exempts only two of the four categories of agreements given a safe harbour by the previous Insurance Block Exemption Regulation (358/2003) (previous BER).
