The Latvian Competition Authority approves acquisition in the medical equipment sector (GE Healthcare / Whatman)

On March 26, 2008, after a mere three weeks of investigation, the Latvian Competition Council adopted a decision clearing the acquisition of control over Whatman PLC by GE Healthcare Sciences Ltd., notified on March 5, 2008. Both GE Healthcare Sciences Ltd. (hereinafter «GEHLS») and Whatman PLC (hereinafter «Whatman») are incorporated in the United Kingdom. Acquirer GEHLS is a subsidiary of General Electric Company (hereinafter «GE»), a special purpose vehicle established for the acquisition and holding of shares of Whatman.
