Background information The decision at hand of the Belgian Competition Council, concerning the request for the revision of the conditions imposed on NV Telenet Bidco (now NV Telenet) as a result of its acquisition of (the Flemish pay TV activities of) NV Canal + in 2003, is one of the elements which made the selling of the TV broadcasting rights of the Belgian football competition once again an interesting story. In 2005, Belgacom, the telecom incumbent, acquired the TV broadcasting rights of the Jupiler League for three seasons (2005-2008), paying 36 million euros per season.
