The UK Competition Authority consults on remedies on the personal current account banking services market (PCA Northern Ireland)

On 6 March 2007 the UK Competition Commission (“CC”) published for consultation a proposed final remedies package to remedy the competition issues provisionally identified by the CC in its review of the personal current account (“PCA”) banking services market in Northern Ireland. The CC is the senior competition body in the UK and is responsible for reviewing mergers and markets upon referral from the UK Office of Fair Trading (“OFT”). The CC inquiry into PCA banking services in Northern Ireland stemmed initially from a joint “super complaint”, from the UK consumer representative body Which? and the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, made to the OFT on 15 November 2004, which claimed that the market
