The Latvian Competition Council fines a company for imposing retail price maintenance obligations (Hanzas maiznicas)

Summary On 29 March 2006, the Latvian Competition Council imposed a LVL 11,709 (€ 16,680) fine on AS ‘Hanzas maiznicas', a leading bread manufacturer in Latvia, for imposing retail price maintenance requirements on bread retailers in Latvia. The facts In 2004 and 2005, AS ‘Hanzas maiznica' organized bread sales promotion campaigns. During these campaigns, the packaging of the bread indicated its retail price. The price for each campaign was first offered by AS ‘Hanzas maiznica' and then either accepted or rejected by each retailer. The claims of the Competition Council The Competition Council claimed that the activities of AS ‘Hanzas maiznicas'
