A Portuguese self-regulation body for advertising suspends triple-play campaign due to misleading claim of optical fibre connections (PT Comunicações / ZON TV CABO)

On 27 July 2009 ICAP - Instituto Civil da Autodisciplina da Comunicação Comercial (Civil Institute for Self-Discipline in Commercial Communication) ordered the suspension of the advertising campaign carried out by leading pay-TV operator in Portugal ZON TV CABO following a complaint by PT Comunicações. The campaign advertised pay-TV, Internet and voice services via optical fibre and was centred on the slogan “Over 1 million homes connected to fibre”. ICAP considered that due to the hybrid nature of ZON's network and the absence of last mile connection to customers' homes, such claim was likely to mislead consumers.
