The Moldovan Competition Authority investigates the alleged predatory pricing of mobile telecommunications services by the incumbent operator (Moldtelecom)

On 17 June 2011 the Moldovan Competition Authority (CC) [1] received a complaint lodged by the mobile telecom company IM Moldcell SA alleging the existence of an abuse of dominant position on the mobile telecommunications market on the part of the incumbent telecom operator Moldtelecom SA. The complainant alleged that Moldtelecom has abused its dominant position by applying predatory prices to its mobile telecom services. In May of 2011 Moldtelecom launched the following promotional offer for those interested in joining its postpaid mobile service: (1) 35 MDL monthly fee; (2) 800 minutes of calls to any Moldtelecom number (both fixed and mobile); (3) promotional tariffs for the calls to other mobile networks; (4) 3G-supporting mobile phone for the price of 1 MDL.
