The UK Competition Authority issues provisional findings in the potential merger between online retailers of delivered goods (Sainsbury / Asda)

Sainsbury's and Asda are the second and third largest grocery retailers in the UK respectively, and represent two of the four largest online retailers of delivered goods in the UK. Their networks include supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol filling stations. Both parties also retail general merchandise items such as clothing, electricals and toys. The proposed merger was announced on 30 April 2018 and would involve Sainsbury's acquiring the entire issued share capital of Asda. Following a request, the CMA agreed to proceed to a second stage
