Following a reference of the case to it from the OFT [1], on 22 December 2009, the UK Competition Commission ("CC") announced that it had decided to clear unconditionally the proposed merger of Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. ("Ticketmaster"), a ticketing agent, and Live Nation Inc. ("Live Nation"), a live music promoter and operator of live music venues, in the UK. The CC concluded that the merger would not result in a substantial lessening of competition in the market for live music ticket retailing or in any other market in the UK, including live music promotion and live music venues. The clearance decision [2] stood in marked contrast to the CC's provisional findings published in October 2009 [3], in which the CC had suggested that the proposed merger would limit the development
