The UK OFT recommends to replace the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme by ex-ante pricing

1. Introduction The OFT's market study on the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS) has recommended that the government introduce an ex-ante based pricing system to replace the current PPRS. It fully acknowledges that its pro-innovation approach could create a market of “winners and losers” that is favourable to those that chose to innovate and hostile to those that don't. It acknowledges that a truly pro-innovative system may not necessarily work in harmony with untrammelled parallel trade and considers how the two could ever exist side by side in this particular industry. If accepted by the Government, could it revolutionise the way in which medicines are priced? The report was published on 20 February 2007.
