The Russian National Competition Authorities scrutinize the creation of a new global leader in the aluminium business after clearance by the EC Commission (United Company RUSAL)

On 9 October 2006 Open Joint Stock Company Russian Aluminium (RUSAL), Open Joint Stock Company Siberian-Ural Aluminium Company (SUAL) and Glencore International AG (Glencore) signed an agreement to create United Company RUSAL Limited and thus to consolidate RUSAL, SUAL and the alumina assets of Glencore. RUSAL is the world's third largest aluminium producer and the leading aluminium manufacturer in Russia controlling about 75% of Russian aluminium production. SUAL ranks amongst the world's top ten aluminium producers. Glencore is a leading privately-held diversified natural resources company with worldwide business in metals and minerals, energy products and agricultural products.
