The European Commission adopts new community framework on state aid for research and development

"The commission adopts new community framework on state aid for research and development"* Article 130f of the EC Treaty outlines the Community objective of strengthening the scientific and technological bases of Community industry and encourage it to become more competitive internationally. The Maastricht Treaty confirmed that objective. In the light of these objectives the Commission has traditionally adopted a favourable approach towards aid for research and development. Thus, in its White Paper on Growth, Competitiveness and Employment (see EC-Bulletin 6/93) the Commission recognizes the important contribution research and technological development can make to renewing growth, strengthening the competitiveness of European industry and boosting employment in the Community.
