The Italian Competition Authority opens an Article 101 TFEU investigation against a purchase supercenter of several large supermarket chains (Centrale Italiana)

Introduction By a decision made on 4th December 2013 in the Centrale di Acquisto per la grande distribuzione autorizzata (Purchase Supercenter) case the Italian Competition Authority (ICA) has opened an Article 101 TFEU enquiry into the agreement concluded by several supermarket chains for the creation of a common purchase supercentre, Centrale Italiana (CI) [1]. The ICA believed that CI might restrain competition in the purchasing and selling markets. The facts of the case and the findings of the Italian Competition Authority CI was a cooperative company incorporated by several Italian large supermarket chains, Coop Italia, Despar Servizi, Gartico and Discoverde.
