The French competition authority clears, subject to conditions, the acquisition of one of its main competitors by a major French spirits manufacturer after in-depth investigation (Compagnie Financière de Prise de Participations / Quartier Français Spiritueux)

In case no. 11-DCC-187 the French competition authority (FCA) examined the acquisition by COFEPP, a major French spirits manufacturer, of Quartier Français Spiritueux (QFS), one of its main competitors in the area. The transaction was cleared subject to conditions on 13 December 2011, the decision being the only conditional merger clearance after an in-depth investigation rendered in France in 2011. The parties and the transaction COFEPP is the leading French rum distiller but manufactures and distributes also various other spirits and alcoholic beverages, including whiskies, vodkas, gin, tequila, liqueurs, rum cocktails, as well as syrups and non-alcoholic beverages.
