The UK Competition Commission clears a merger in the entertainment industry (Ticketmaster / Live Nation)

Factual background Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc (“Ticketmaster”) is the world's largest ticket agent, and sells tickets on behalf of live music promoters and venue operators. Live Nation Inc (“Live Nation”) is principally a promoter of live music events and an owner/operator of live music venues. The two companies have had a contractual relationship under which Ticketmaster was Live Nation's preferred global ticket agent for years. But as this relationship was due to expire (in 2008 in the US and 2009 in the UK), Live Nation started exploring alternative ticketing options. It signed a binding Letter of Intent with CTS Eventim AG (“Eventim”); the second largest ticketing services provider and ticket agent, and a promoter of live music events. But Ticketmaster remained on top of the game:
