The Hungarian Competition Office fines cement manufacturers group for failure to notify the acquisition of joint control but clears the merger (Breitenburger, Schwenk, Heidelberger - BÉCEM)

In 2001, the HCO launched proceedings against Holcim Hungária Cementipari Rt. (Holcim Hungária), Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. (Duna-Dráva), BÉCEM Kőlisztgyártó, Vagyonkezelő és Szolgáltató Cement- és Mészipari Rt. (BÉCEM), Breitenburger Auslandsbeteiligungs GmbH (Breitenburger), Heidelberger Zement AG (Heidelberger), E Schwenk Zementwerke KG (Schwenk) and Holcim Beton Betongyártó Rt. (Holcim Beton) in order to investigate whether Duna-Dráva, Breitenburger, Heidelberger, Schwenk and Holcim Beton had failed to notify the HCO of their acquisition of joint control over BÉCEM. On 1 July 1997, Duna-Dráva (a JV established by Heidelberger and Schenk) and the legal predecessor of Holcim Beton (owned by Breitenburger) purchased 19.8% and 23% respectively of the shares in BÉCEM.
