The Competition Commissioner Almunia announces upcoming changes to the Commission’s fine calculation procedures

Speaking at a conference in Berlin on 14 April 2011, Commissioner Joaquín Almunia set out the Commission's recent thinking on the issue of the ever-increasing burden of fines for competition infringements. While Commissioner Almunia was quick to defend the level of the fines handed out over the last several years, he indicated that the Commission was considering ways of better distributing the fines among participants in infringements and of better communicating the level of the fine which undertakings under investigation should expect.
