The Dutch Competition Authority clears sugar “merger to monopoly” (Cosun-CSM)

In a second phase decision, the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa) has approved the concentration between the only two sugar producers in the Netherlands : CSM and Cosun. The NMa's first phase decision On 28 August 2006, the NMa received a notification on the intended acquisition by Cosun of CSM. Both parties are active in the production and sale of sugar and sugar related products. The sugar is sold to industrial purchasers as well as purchasers active at the retail level, particularly supermarkets. Sugar beets are used for the production of sugar.
