The United States Justice Department (“DOJ”) filed suit to prevent defendants, Carilion Health System, a not-for-profit corporation which owns and operates Roanoke Memorial Hospitals, and Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, a not-for-profit corporation which owns and operates Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, from consummating a proposed merger of the largest and third largest hospitals of three total general acute care hospitals in the Roanoke, Virginia area.
