Marie-Barde Girard is a seasoned entrepreneur based in London, with particular interest in GovTech. She is currently working with start-ups in GovTech, EdTech and Media in France and the UK. She started her career as a special adviser to Ministers in France. She was special adviser to François Hollande and Chief of Staff to Michel Sapin, Minister for e-Government and public services. They launched service-public.fr, France’s number 1 Government website (282M visits in 2017), and rolled out a large programme to simplify paperwork and help civil servants speak "plain French". She then led antitrust investigation teams for the UK Government and worked closely with the European Commission on the case against Microsoft in 2014 (record 497M€ fine). She then worked for the Chairman of Transport for London and the Mayor of London on strategic projects including due diligence on the London Underground Public-Private Partnership (£7Bn investment), London’s climate change action Plan (zero carbon city by 2050) and the roll out of electric vehicles (X10 since 2012). In 2010, she co-founded Shopvolution Ltd and its platform Shopcade, your one stop shopping app for all things stylish. Shopcade was branded the “coolest app in Europe” (Momentum Media Awards, 2014). A leading player in the media commerce space, Shopvolution Ltd was acquired by French Media Group Lagardère in January 2017. In 2019, she produced a report on GovTech in France for investment fund and accelerator Public, which was endorsed by President Macron. Since 2020, she is Managing Director for EdTech startup World is a Village and strategic adviser to InPlayer Ltd. She is also a member of Station F’s selection Board.
