François Souty has joined the Directorate General of Competition, Consumers affairs and Frauds Repression (DGCCRF) in the Ministry of Economics, Finance and Industry as Senior Counsel to coordinate International Activities on Jan. 1, 2007. Prior to this assignment, François Souty spent ten years at the Competition Council as Counsel for International Affairs, representing the agency at the OECD Competition Committee, UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition, the Working Group on Trade and Competition at the WTO (from 1997 to 2003) and the International Competition Network. Elected as coordinator of the OECD Competition Authorities at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development since 1995 he has chaired the 4th United Nations Conference on Competition rules from 2000 to 2005. François Souty also teaches Competition Law and Policy in a comparative perspective at the University of La Rochelle where he has created in 1999 a post graduate program on International Trade with Asia. From 1991 to 1996, he served as an Advisor at the Dgccrf on competition matters in the areas of energy, distribution structures and contracting works and then on international affairs. Earlier in his career, he investigated and reported on anticompetitive behaviors at DGCCRF Field Office from 1982 to 1990.
