Chantal Arens

First President

Chantal Arens has been nominated First President of the French Cour de cassation after serving as First President of the Paris Court of Appeal for five years. She previously served as the President of the Regional Courts (Tribunaux de grande instance) of Evreux (2002-2007), Nanterre (2008-2010) and Paris (2010-2014). After heading the French Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications’ Community law office from 1989 to 1993, Mrs Arens joined the Parquet de Paris where she was in charge of the clever delinquency section within the financial department. She formerly worked as a first-instance judge at Saint-Avold and Metz and served as Vice-President of Thionville, Chartres and Versailles’ tribunals.
