Alan Ryan

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Brussels)
Lawyer (Partner)

Alan is an antitrust practice partner based in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Brussels office, where he draws on over 20 years’ experience before the European Commission and courts. His practice focuses on European competition and regulatory law. He has considerable experience of complex merger reviews at both EU and national levels, and of investigations into anti-competitive practices, including abuse of dominance and cartels. He is also an experienced litigator before the European General Court and Court of Justice. Alan works for clients across industries but is well-known for his success in high-tech and aviation. He recently stepped down as co-head of the firm’s global infrastructure and transport sector group following a five-year term. He enjoys the challenge of difficult cases, where it is necessary to drive the case, rather than simply follow it. Alan maintains an in-depth understanding of all his clients’ businesses and his aim is always to further their interests in the most effective manner possible. Alan’s broad perspective on antitrust issues is helped by the three years he spent in the firm’s Washington DC office. He often works with DC colleagues and has a solid understanding of US antitrust law through co-ordination of large transatlantic matters.
