Torsten Körber

Professor Dr. Torsten Körber is a professor at the University of Cologne He studied law, economics and history at the German universities of Göttingen and Munich, as well as at the National University of Singapore and at the University of California at Berkeley where he received his Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in 1993. In 1996, Körber published a dissertation on "The Competitor’s Standing to Sue in German, US and EEC Merger Law" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Ulrich Immenga. After finishing his habilitation on "Basic Freedoms (of the EEC Treaty) and Civil Law" ´(2003) and serving as a guest professor at the TU Dresden, Körber became tenured associate professor at the Heinrich-Heine-University Duesseldorf (2004). He was appointed tenured full professor at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena (2005) and then at the Georg-August-University Göttingen (2009). Since 2018 Körber has been professor at the University of Cologne and director of the Cologne Institut of Energy Law (EWIR). Körber’s main focus is on competition law (particularly merger control and digital economy), regulatory law (energy, electronic communications, media), digitalization and data. He teaches and publishes in German and English language and is editor of commentaries on the German Stock Corporations Act (Bürgers/Körber/Lieder, AktG), on the German Telecommunications Act and Media Privacy Act (Säcker/Körber, TKG/TTDSG), and on German and EU Competition Law (Immenga/Mestmäcker, Wettbewerbsrecht). He is also editor of the antitrust law periodical "Neue Zeitschrift fuer Kartellrecht" (NZKart).
