Deputy Secretary General

Sadaaki Suwazono is the Deputy Secretary General for International Affairs at the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC). Mr. Suwazono became the Deputy Secretary General for International Affairs in July of 2018. Previously he worked as the head of the Osaka branch of the JFTC. From 2013 to 2017, he worked as the director of the International Affairs Division of the JFTC. In this position, he engaged in negotiation of the TPP and several MOUs with the competition authorities of Australia, Canada, China, Kenya, Korea, and Mongolia, and in technical assistance and cooperation with various institutions including the OECD and UNCTAD. He was also acting director in charge of drafting the amendment bill of the Anti-Monopoly Act and investigation of several cases in the JFTC. He has further worked in the Cabinet Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. From 2009 to 2010, he taught competition law and consumer protection as a law professor at the Law School of Tohoku University.
