Pieter Steyn is a director at Werksmans Attorneys in South Africa and chairperson of LEX Africa, an alliance of law firms in 29 African countries. He has advised clients on all aspects of competition law since 1999 in both South Africa and other African countries including the COMESA regional competition regime. Pieter and his team lodged the first ever merger filing for Funai Electric with the COMESA Competition Commission in 2013. He has spoken at conferences/seminars and written several articles and contributions to books on competition law. He was an officer of the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) from 2001 to 2017 and was co-chair of the IBA Antitrust Committee in 2016 and 2017 and co-chair of the IBA African Regional Forum in 2019 and 2020. He has been involved in several IBA submissions including to the South African, Namibian, Nigerian and COMESA competition authorities.
