Marieke Van Nieuwenborgh is an associate at Crowell & Moring’s Brussels Office and a member of the firm’s Antitrust Group. Her practice involves the full range of EU and Belgian competition law including restrictive practices, merger control, and state aid. Marieke focuses in particular on antitrust damages recovery. She assists clients in proceedings relating to actions for damages for competition law infringements. Marieke also assists clients in the e-commerce sector with matters relating to online sales and presence. Marieke’s experience includes counseling national and international clients on cooperation, exclusivity and distribution agreements, across various industries, including the transport and telecom sector and the entertainment industry. In addition, she has represented clients before the Belgian competition authority and the EU Commission in merger proceedings and competition investigations. Marieke obtained her J.D., magna cum laude, from Ghent University in 2012. She became a member of the Brussels bar that same year. In 2016, she obtained an LL.M in Competition, Innovation and Information Law from New York University. Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Marieke worked at the EU Competition Practice of one of Belgium’s largest independent law firms, where she advised national and international companies on various competition-related matters, as well as represented several clients before the Belgian Competition Authority, the Belgian courts, and the European Commission.
