Michael J. Frese is a counsel with Skadden in Brussels. His practice focuses on EU competition law. Mr. Frese has been involved in representing companies in several investigations before the European Commission and national competition authorities, and representing applicants in several appeal proceedings before the EU General Court. In addition, Mr. Frese has advised on a number of commercial practices, including most-favoured nation requirements, life-cycle management, cross-licensing, patent settlements, patent-monetization, rebates and joint marketing. Mr. Frese also has been involved in advising on a number of multijurisdictional transactions. Prior to joining Skadden, Mr. Frese lectured EU competition law, EU law and administrative law at the University of Amsterdam. He publishes regularly in professional and academic journals.

Michael J. Frese has also received the Concurrences PhD Law Award in 2013 for his thesis: "Sanctions in EU Competition Law: Principles and Practice"
