Ségolène Royal graduated fom the Political Science Institute of Paris before joining the Ecole Nationale d’Administration. She first worked as an administrative judge, before joining the presidential staff in 1982. In 1988, she was elected as a congresswoman, in the Deux Sèvres county. She has been re elected to this function since then. In 1992, she entered the socialist governement and was Minister of the Environment, until 1993. She has been appointed Minister twice since then: to Scholarship Teaching (2000-2002), and to Family, Childhood and Disabled Persons (2002-2003). In 2004, she was elected President of the Region Poitou Charentes. She is now minister of ecology, sustainable development and energy. Ségolène Royal wrote several books: "The Grandparents’ Spring" (1987), "The exasperation of the zapper babies" (1987), "The truth of a woman" (1996). She gave this interview while running for the 2007 French presidential elections.
