Michael joined UEA Law School in September 2002, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2008, Reader in 2012, and Professor in 2013. His research interests are primarily in regulation, competition law and media law.

His research has been funded by various bodies including the ESRC, the Department of Business, and Ofcom. He is currently pursuing research projects which investigate the role of the EU courts in advancing liberalisation of network industries, the politics of media regulation, and the interaction of public service obligations and competition policy. He is a member of the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy and media@uea.

Michael teaches on Competition Law, Media Law and a masters module on Media Regulation.

He is interested in supervising research students in all areas of competition law and media law.
