Margot Aelen joined the Authority for Consumers and Markets in July 2021. She leads a team dedicated to heat, water and Dutch Caribbean matters. Prior to joining the ACM, Margot Aelen was Supervisor specialist working at De Nederlandsche Bank / Dutch Central Bank. Prior to that, she was a PhD Candidate at the Europe Institute of Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She started her PhD in 2010. Her research focuses on principles of good market supervision and supervisory authorities. Margot completed a master in Law and Economics at Utrecht University and a master in European Law at Paris-2 Panthéon-Assas. After she graduated and before starting the PhD she worked as junior lecturer at the Europe Institute of Utrecht University. During her studies Margot completed an internship at the law firm NautaDutilh and at the Netherlands Competition Authority. She also was chief editor of Merkourios, Urios Journal of International and European Law.
