Maarten Peeters obtained his law degree at Antwerp University, Belgium (2003, magna cum laude). He obtained additional Master’s degrees in Namur and Antwerp (ICT Law & Management (2004, magna cum laude) and Maritime Sciences (2006, magna cum laude)). In 2011, he obtained his PhD at KU Leuven (Belgium) with a thesis on “Scope of State Aid Control and Policy in the European Union” (promotor Prof. dr. J. Stuyck, copromotor Prof. dr. W. Devroe). Since 2012, Maarten has been working at the KBC Group, Belgium’s main banking and insurance group. First, he worked as an advisor on financial law and as of 2014 as a project manager on investor risk. In this function, he is responsible for the implementation of changes in European and Belgian financial regulation, for participation in the legislative and regulatory process as well as for contacts with the supervisor. He performs academic research and publishes with a focus on the legislation applicable to the European and Belgian financial sectors.
