Koen Van de Casteele is head of unit in the State aid Strategic Support and Decision Scrutiny Unit within the Competition Directorate General at the European Commission, he is based out of Brussels. From 2001 to 2005, he worked in the State aid coordination and policy unit. Before that, he worked as a case handler on agricultural state aid cases. From 1992 until 1998 he worked in the business and finance department of the Brussels and London offices of the law firm De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae (now Linklaters De Bandt). Koen Van de Casteele has read law at Leuven University, the College of Europe and the University of Michigan Law School.
