Kiri Tahana is Partner at Kahui Legal since 2017. She was Senior Director Legal Counsel at the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (also called "Du"). Prior to joining Du, she was part of Gilbert + Tobin as a senior lawyer in the Litigation Group. Kiri has extensive experience in commercial litigation in both Australia and New Zealand. In particular she acted in: proceedings between large telecommunications corporations in both New Zealand and Australia regarding competition law breaches; proceedings between competitors in the outdoor advertising industry regarding competition law breaches; investigations and proceedings in New Zealand regarding cartels; defamation proceedings against a large television network; shareholder disputes; and various proceedings involving contract law and misrepresentation issues. Kiri has experience in complex large scale general commercial litigation in the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court and Court of Appeal of New Zealand. Prior to rejoining the firm, Kiri was Senior Legal Counsel at the New Zealand Commerce Commission where she was responsible for advising the investigative branch on all aspects of investigations into cartel and unilateral conduct cases. She was also responsible for managing litigation in relation to allegations of misuse of market power in New Zealand’s telecommunications industry. Kiri has qualifications in law (Honours), politics and Maori.
