Josef Azizi is an Honorary Professor at the Vienna University Law Faculty and a Deputy Chairman of the Academy of European Law (ERA) Board of Trustees. He received his Doctor of Laws and a Master of Sociology and Economics from the University of Vienna and is now a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the Vienna School of Economics, the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna and various other universities. In addition, he is an Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna, Ministerialrat and Head of Department at the Federal Chancellery. Azizi is a member of the Steering Committee on Legal Cooperation of the Council of Europe (CDCJ), representative ad litem before the Verfassungsgerichtshof (Constitutional Court) in proceedings reviewing the constitutionality of federal laws and the coordinator responsible for the adaptation of Austrian Federal Law to Community law. He was a judge at the General Court from 18 January 1995 to 16 September 2013.
