João Vareda works as a Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission (DG COMP) where he deals with antitrust cases in the telecoms sector. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics (Lisbon, Portugal), a B.Sc. in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics (Lisbon, Portugal). Prior to obtaining his Ph.D., he held a position as Economist at the Portuguese Competition Authority. His research interests are in antitrust economics and industrial organization.
