James MacDonald is chief of the Structure, Technology, and Productivity Branch at the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His research focuses on structural change, competition, pricing, and productivity growth in food and agricultural industries, and he also shares responsibility for managing the annual Agricultural Resource Management Survey, which is the Department of Agriculture’s primary source of data on farm and farm household finances. He received a Ph.D in economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and received his undergraduate degree, also in economics, from Siena College.
