Giovanni Pitruzzella
Giovanni Pitruzzella has been Advocate General at the Court of Justice since 8 October 2018. He was previously the Chairman of the Italian Competition Authority between November 2011 and 2018. He has been a full professor of constitutional Law since 1994, first at the University of Cagliari and subsequently at the University of Palermo. Before this, from 1986 to 1993, he was an associate professor of Institutions of public law. He practiced as an administrative attorney for approximately twenty years. In 2006, he was appointed a member of the Strike Regulatory Authority (for implementation of the law on strikes in essential public services), which he then presided over from 2009 to 2011. He was the President of the Joint Committee on implementation of the Special Statute of Sicily, and has served as a legal adviser for parliamentary bodies, ministries and regional presidents. He co-authored (with Roberto Bin) a manual on constitutional Law (Giappichelli), which is in its eleventh edition and being used in Italy’s primary Universities. He has written many articles for law journals, edited numerous anthologies and published six different monographs, including "Forme di governo e trasformazioni della politica” (Government forms and transformations of policy), Laterza, 1996 and (with Vincenzo Lippolis) "Il bipolarismo conflittuale” (Conflictual bipolarism), Rubbettino 2007.
