Catherine Bergeal is, since 2007, Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment and at the Ministry of Budget, Public Accounts, Civil Service and State Reform. After starting her career as an administrative magistrate, she was Inspector General of Social Affairs from 1986 to 1988, before joining the General Secretariat of the Government as legal advisor to the Prime Minister from 1988 to 1994. She has been a member of the Council of State since 1994, where she served as Government Commissioner for seven years. From 2002 to 2007, she was seconded to the Ministry of Defence as Director of Legal Affairs.
