Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui presents a most comprehensive and novel approach to the antitrust treatment of buyer power. Assessing buyer power requires a more complex and thorough analysis than in other traditional cases, taking into account a wider range of economic interest through what he designates as the ‘dual approach’. Following this insightful methodology to assessing buyer power provides a more accurate and precise results of economic effects of market behaviour. Buyer Power in EU Competition Law by Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui was defended and approved as a PhD thesis at the University of Bergen in February 2017. This book is an important and well written piece of work and the result of a comprehensive and thorough research.

Herrera Anchustegui uses a dualistic approach as a key analytic tool: both the undertaking’s activity as a seller and as a buyer is under investigation in the analysis of buyer power, and thereby the effects of buyer power in both the upstream and the downstream market can be evaluated. The book distinguishes between exploitative and exclusive buyer power and brings about important new insights. It represents a comprehensive analysis of the existing (limited) European case law hence possible buyer power problems.

A "must read" for all interested in buyer power issues in Competition Law, and a PhD thesis of high international scientific standard.
