Raphaël De Coninck is a Vice President at Charles River Associates (CRA). He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and degrees in Law and in Economics from the University of Liège, Belgium. Dr. De Coninck has provided expert economic advice in numerous high profile mergers (e.g. Sony/BMG, Endesa/Gas Natural, Omya/Huber, Travelport/Worldspan, Thomson/Reuters, TomTom/TeleAtlas, Nokia/Navteq, EDF/British Energy, Panasonic/Sanyo, Lufthansa/Austrian Airlines, Kraft/Cadbury, Cisco/Tandberg, Votorantim/Fischer, Seagate/Samsung, WD/Hitachi), complex antitrust cases (e.g. BHP/RioTinto JV, Rambus, Nokia/Bosch IPCom) and cartel investigations. Dr. De Coninck previously worked with the Chief Economist team at DG COMP, and before that, as a senior associate for a European-based economic consultancy. He has also lectured on Law and Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago and held a post-doctoral research fellow position at New York University School of Law. He is a frequent speaker at antitrust/competition conferences and has trained case handlers from various jurisdictions on merger analysis at Fordham University and at the European Commission. While at the European Commission, he also contributed to major competition policy initiatives, including the Best Practices for Economic Submissions and Data Collection in Merger and Antitrust cases, the ex-officio methodology for cartel investigations, and the Guidance Paper on the Quantification of Antitrust Damages in Civil Proceedings.
