André Sapir is Professor of Economics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where he teaches international trade and European integration. He is also Senior Fellow of the Brussels European and Global Economic Laboratory (BRUEGEL), and Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He is member of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso’s Economic Advisory Group. Until January 2005, he worked 12 years for the European Commission, first serving as Economic Advisor to the Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs. Between 2001 and 2004, he was Economic Advisor to President Romano Prodi. He was the Chairman of the High-Level Study Group that produced the 2003 report “An Agenda for a Growing Europe”, known as the “Sapir Report”. He has written extensively on globalisation and European integration.
