The Italian Competition Authority opens proceedings in the market of football audiovisual rights for alleged violation of Art. 81 and/or 82 EC (Lega Calcio / Chievo Verona)

On April 2008, the Italian Competition Authority (hereinafter, also the “Authority”) launched an investigation in the market of football audiovisual rights in order to find out any possible infringements of article 81 and/or 82 of the EC Treaty. Party under investigation Investigations concerned the “Lega Nazionale Professionisti” (hereinafter, also “Lega Calcio”), the private association that represents the football clubs participating in the Italian Serie A and Serie B competitions. The Lega Calcio is in charge with the organization and management of: a) the Serie A and B leagues; b) the Italian Cup competition; c) the Italian Super Cup final; d) and different juvenile national competitions.
